Frequently asked questions

Is the Blue Card a visa?

The Blue Card is a residence permit. Most nationalities first receive an MVV – a 90-day entry visa – and then collect the Blue Card in the Netherlands. Some nationalities are exempt from the MVV.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. Your partner and children can apply for residence with you, and your partner is allowed to work.

Blue Card or Highly Skilled Migrant – which is better for me?

It depends on your employer, salary and degree. See the comparison above, or book a free consultation and we will advise you.

What happens if I lose my job?

You get 3 months to find a new job – or 6 months if you have held the Blue Card for at least 2 years. Contact us straight away so we can plan the next step.

How long does it take?

The IND decides within 90 days. When your employer is a recognised sponsor, it is usually much faster.
